Capption LLC ("Capption" or the "Company") is committed to protecting your personal privacy. This Privacy Policy defines how we collect, handle, use, share, and protect information about you and explains our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.
This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect or that is submitted to us through our Android and iOS Mobile Apps, iOS App Clip, Administrative Interface, Website (capption.com), Social Media, email and similar electronic messages, and interactions with advertising and applications on third-party websites that link to this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to both this Privacy Policy and Capption's Website Terms and Conditions, you must immediately terminate your use of the Sites.
What information do we collect?
Capption does not generate revenue from surveillance and strives to collect as little personal information as possible.
Information that you provide
- Administrative accounts and profiles. We may collect your profile photo, phone number, username, and email address associated with third-party sign-on services.
- Customer support activity. Communications with our support team are collected in a customer service management system.
- User-generated content. Text, pictures, images, videos, audio, comments, messages, and related metadata you generate or transmit through the Service.
- Inquiries, promotion, and event participation. Marketing information you share via our website, contact forms, or social media.
Information from third-party sources
- Data providers. Demographic and other information to help us detect fraud.
- Marketing partners. Joint marketing partners and event sponsors.
- Social media services. Username, profile picture, and email address if you register or log in using a third-party service.
- Logistics service providers. Delivery address and progress for fulfillment of physical items like NFC tags.
Information collected automatically
- Device data. Device model, Capptions scanned, crashes, operating system, language settings, and related usage events. Capption does not expose or sell user data to third-party marketing services.
- Service usage analytics. Pages viewed, duration, source, and email interaction data.
- Location data. Approximate location via IP address.
- No PID or advertising IDs from Mobile App use. Capption does not collect advertising IDs or personally identifiable data from Mobile Application users.
How and why we use your information
We use collected personal information to develop, improve, support, and provide the Service. Specific purposes include:
- Create and maintain your account. To create your administrative profile and enable security features.
- Cookies and related technologies. To measure and analyze how you use the Service. You may disable cookies in your browser settings.
- Orders and delivery. To receive and process orders, deliver products, process payments, and communicate about orders.
- Improve and optimize services. To optimize features, analyze performance, fix errors, and create aggregated, deidentified data.
- Customer support. To communicate announcements, updates, security alerts, and respond to requests.
- Marketing. To send direct marketing communications. You may opt out at any time.
- Fraud prevention and security. To prevent, detect, investigate, and respond to unauthorized access or fraud.
- Compliance and legal obligations. To comply with U.S. law and lawful requests, enforce our terms, and prevent illegal activities.
Your controls and choices
- Access, delete, and correct. You may have the right to access, delete, or correct your personal information under applicable U.S. privacy laws.
- Opt-out from marketing. Follow the unsubscribe options at the bottom of any marketing email.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Follow your browser's instructions to remove or reject cookies. Note that disabling cookies may affect some features.
- Third-party platform settings. Use your social media account settings to limit information shared with us.
- Do Not Track. Due to varying standards, we do not currently guarantee that we will honor Do Not Track signals.
- Declining to provide information. You may decline to provide information, but doing so may limit our ability to provide Services.
Notice to California residents
These disclosures apply only to California residents. By providing this notice, Capption in no way acknowledges or consents to being subject to the CCPA or CPRA, and expressly disclaims applicability based on small business exemptions.
Categories Capption may collect
- Identifiers (name, email, IP address, account ID)
- Customer records (phone number, billing address)
- Demographic information (age or gender)
- Analytics and advertising data
- Internet activity (browsing history, browser type)
- Geolocation data (approximate, via IP)
- Inferences about your interests and preferences
Capption will not intentionally collect Sensitive Personal Information as defined by the CPRA (biometric data, social security numbers, geolocation, etc.). Capption does not sell information.
Right to know and delete
California residents may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, the sources, business or commercial purposes, and third parties with whom it was shared. You also have the right to request deletion.
To exercise these rights, submit a request to hello@capption.com. Capption will confirm receipt within 10 days.
Shine the Light
California residents may request a list of categories of Personal Information disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes. Include "California Shine the Light Request" in the subject line and mail to us at the address below.
Notice to European Union users
Capption operates in the United States. If you are subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and provide information to us, that information will be transferred to the United States. By providing Personal Information to us, you consent to its storage and use as described in this Privacy Policy.
Under GDPR, you may have the right to: (i) withdraw consent; (ii) request your Personal Information previously collected by Capption; or (iii) pause data processing relating to your Personal Information. To exercise these rights, contact hello@capption.com.
Children under the age of 18
Capption complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions subject to GDPR). If we discover we have received information from a child under the applicable minimum age, we will promptly delete it.

Data security and retention
Capption takes privacy and security seriously enough that we collect very little data from you. The Capption Mobile App does not collect user data — only usage data (which Capptions were accessed, where, and in what language). That usage data lives on your device and is never shared.
The Capption Website and Administrative Interface use technical and administrative measures to help protect your personal information from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. We also follow PCI-DSS in handling credit card information.
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, satisfy legal requirements, establish or defend legal claims, or prevent fraud. When no longer required, we delete, anonymize, or isolate it from further processing.
Changes to our Privacy Policy
Capption will post any changes to this Privacy Policy on this page and will indicate the date it was last updated at the top. Your continued use of the Sites constitutes acceptance of any changes.

By continuing to use or access the Sites following the posting of any changes to this Privacy Policy, you are deemed to have accepted such changes. Capption encourages you to periodically review this Privacy Policy.
